Class Description

 

Why would you attend a yoga class at Back Pocket Yoga Studios? Because, each class is like a mini therapy session tailored specifically to you. In one hour, harness your energy, center and come back to yourself, benefit from breath and movement and heal your own body. All of the power lies within you - come learn how.

Connect

Come to CONNECT if you are feeling: anxious, disconnected, fearful, helpless worried

Style of yoga:

Hatha Yoga, which literally means “union through discipline of force,” is a school of Yoga that stresses mastery of the body as a way of attaining a state of spiritual perfection in which the mind is withdrawn from external objects. Hatha Yoga is a form of exercise that develops strength, flexibility, bodily relaxation, and mental concentration

Body Parts Worked:

Feet and Legs

Intention:

In this Hatha Yoga class, reconnect and ground yourself. Focus on your feet and your legs and moving down into the earth

Devour

Come to DEVOUR if you are feeling: lost in thought, unconscious to the world around you, out of touch

Style of Yoga:

Vinyasa is a style of yoga characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath. ... Put all this together and Vinyasa, is a breath -initiated practice, that connects every action of your life with the intention of moving towards what is sacred, or most important to you

Body Parts Worked:

The entire body with a main emphasis on hip and heart opening

Intention:

In this Vinyasa yoga class, connect with the fluidity inside of you. Think of honey as you move your body in all directions, slowly, gracefully, lovingly. Explore and cultivate connection in every nook and cranny. Movement is expression of emotion. Find where you are and hold yourself as you allow your body to heal and move

Ignite

Come to IGNITE if you are feeling: Powerless, drained, weak, fragile, helpless, in need of internal power and strength

Style of Yoga:

Power yoga is empowering. Empowering meaning aware, awake, mentally strong, centered, stable within the vicissitudes (less reactive). Combined with a supple, toned, well oiled (blood flow) body that is very adaptable to the various physical demands of one’s life

 

Body Parts Worked:

Entire body with special emphasis on gluteus minimus; low back; lower abdomen; navel; chest; upper back and shoulders

Intention:

Ignite your fire in this Power yoga class. Find strength, passion, and a knowledge of Who You Are. Direct your life in the way you wish it to go. Learn of your wholeness as you continue to refine yourself through movement and breath exercises

Elixir

Come to ELIXIR if you are feeling: Heavy, weighed down, overwhelmed, insignificant, distant

Style of Yoga:

Pranayama techniques in yoga focus on regulating and balancing your breathing to improve your health. The benefits of different methods include maximum oxygen supply to the lungs, an efficient expulsion of carbon dioxide, better blood circulation, regulated heart rate and blood pressure, and most importantly reduced stress. It helps keep you calm throughout the day in any situation

Body Parts Worked:

Lungs; Upper back; Ribs; Arms; Upper chest

Intention:

Pranayama means breath retention. Breath is the magical potion, or the Elixir, of life. This Pranayama class offers some movement to warm your body followed by breathing exercises to open your heart and breathe down the barriers you have set against love

REUNION

Come to REUNION if you are feeling: Exhausted, powerless, hesitant, not yourself, stuck, like a broken record, out of tune with your Sacred self

Style of Yoga:

Sound Bath is an immersion of beautiful sounds and vibrations that are healing for your body, mind and spirit. A Sound Bath is a deeply relaxing, meditative experience which can take you on a journey of deep relaxation, healing and self-discovery

Journaling and Movement Yoga is the science of and relationship to the Self. Journaling is a beautiful and very personal way to expand upon your time on the mat. A Yoga practice is full of “ah-ha” moments and often those precious nuggets of wisdom get lost because you roll up your mat and walk away without engaging with follow-up practices that give space to explore and provide roots for revelations

Chanting/Singing- Externally, you're just singing repetitive songs with simple melodies and a few Sanskrit words. Try to put your analytical minds to the side and sing from your heart. Try to channel whatever emotion you are feeling into song.


Then the magic happens: Walls constructed long ago come crumbling down. Wounds that you never knew were there begin to heal. Long-submerged emotions come to the surface. As you sing, you immerse yourself in an endless river of prayer that has been flowing since the birth of the first human being. And somehow, effortlessly, you move into a meditative state that creates a safe haven for the flower of the heart to unfold

Throat

Intention:
Reconnect with your body through deep listening and communication. Enjoy the sweet reunion of coming back to yourself. This class invites you to move with deep intention and to use your voice, whether through journaling or singing or listening to chakra healing bowls. Reunite the relationship between your mind, your body, and your spirit. This is harmony. This is peace

Witness

Come to WITNESS if you are feeling: Chaotic, confused, lack of intuition, overwhelmed, lost

 

Style of Yoga:

Guided imagery is a focused practice that involves each of the five senses to ignite positive healing messages throughout the mind and body. The practice is often interchanged with visualization, self-hypnosis and guided meditation, but it has its own set of techniques. The benefits of guided imagery are vast — there is research that shows the practice can reduce fear and anxiety, lessen the frequency of headaches and has been proven to decrease psychological distress in cancer patients

 

Body Parts Worked:

Third Eye

 

Intention:

Be the witness to the truth you are. Using guided visualization, you can heal your mind and begin to know the innate wisdom, the innate goodness you are. This class brings you guided visual meditation (depending on the teacher) and blind folded movement. See yourself clearly. Be with yourself always.

Come to SOURCE if you are feeling: Fearful, attached, out of control, frustrated, worried

 

Style of Yoga:

Meditation-the action or practice of meditating

 

Body Parts Worked:

Consciousness

 

Intention:

You are of God. Whole and worthy of all things. Quiet your mind, separate yourself from everything else. Recognize the Source within. This class invites you to gently move through simple stretches, only to find yourself in a place of stillness and silent meditation
